Let me support you in writing YOUR SONG
I can remember when the Barnett family would gather for reunions or weddings or "big" birthdays (turning 80 or 90 or 100!) Mom and a couple of her aunties would sit at one of the tables, choose a tune that everyone knew and start sharing stories. The stories became verses and from somewhere came a chorus. They let me sit in and even asked and listened to my ideas! This was my first experience of being a songwriter, and looking back now I realize that it was music that helped us connect across the generations.
I wrote and performed my first song when I was 16, and have since taken numerous workshops and played and recorded with some amazing song writers. I would love to offer this experience to you!
As always, the choice is YOURs:
- You choose to learn how to be a song writer. We sit together, at the same table, and I teach you some of the “tricks of the trade”. You may end up writing enough songs for an entire *album! or
- You choose the person, place or things; I interview you, go home and write &
- You choose your favorite song, that I apply the lyrics to, or
- You choose your favorite style, and I create the music from scratch.
*Stillwaters Studios offers live and in studio recording. Why not create a Legacy Album? I can help! It's fun!
HOW MUCH DOES UR SONG COST?
Depends. Do you want to take song writing lessons? OR Do you want to give me your favorite saying and fit it to your favorite tune? Call me. I'd love to help you write your song!
That's my license plate: URSONG. YOU can CHOOSE to read this:
“UR” as in YOUR Song or
U. R. as in YOU ARE (a) song
(Both are true to me ;) And there are other ways to see it…
U. R. SO N. G.
You Are So Near GOD
(GOD also abbreviated for Good Orderly Direction ;)
…And here's another story…
Driving the 1,147 miles between Marshall, VA and Madeline Island, WI. I knew these roads. I had traveled them many times. Mom had died that spring. Dad was still there, (though we weren't sure for how long). I slept at a B&B in some small town and the innkeeper asked me to play a few tunes after breakfast. In the parking lot a stranger said:
“What does your license plate mean?”
“Well, it could mean a couple things,” I smiled. "What do YOU see?"
She paused. “Well, I see ‘URSO, Near God’. She smiled, "URSO was my uncle's name. We're here for his Celebration of Life (funeral)”
She said she was a hospice nurse --her third career--and enthusiastically went on about how much she loved her job. “It's really a growing industry," she continued, ”and they are using music more and more….You should look into it!”
That was 5 years ago. I'm now a student with the Music for Healing and Transition Program and will be working with people in hospice as a Certified Music Practitioner next year. (You can't make this stuff up :)
